- Posterior urethral valve is a membrane at urethra which causes obstruction in urine flow.
- It’s a congenital (by birth) anomaly
- Degree of obstruction varies from child to child. Sometimes if obstruction is severe kidney failure occurs. 25 % of children with PU valve may develop severe kidney failure in adolescence or early adult life often requiring kidney transplant
- Management is by endoscopic fulguration of PU valve after the baby is born.
