Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty for PUJ Obstruction at Institute of Urology, C Scheme, Jaipur: PUJ obstruction is a congenital anomaly where mouth of kidney is blocked which causes the kidney to get swollen and gradually get damaged. Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty is a reconstructive surgery where obstruction is corrected through 3 tiny holes at the abdomen.
A telescope and small instruments are inserted into the abdomen through these keyhole incisions, which allow the surgeon to repair the blockage/narrowing without having to place his or her hands into the abdomen. Post surgery patient is usually discharged after 3 days
We present here a 9 year old boy who presented with flank pain, after the relevant investigations including a DTPA scan later, a diagnosis of “Hydronephrotic kidney with mildly impaired but preserved cortical function and obstructed drainage – PUJO” was made. Therefore, our surgical team at Institute of Urology, C Scheme, Jaipur decided to go for the most minimally invasive technique since this is a case of a child. We successfully performed Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty. Child was discharged on 3rd day, and is doing well now.
